New information issued by statistics company Net Applications indicates that Mozilla’s Firefox internet browser persists in eating away at Microsoft Internet Explorer’s user base. This is quite a telling achievement, especially when you take into account that it wasn’t very long ago when pretty much all internet users solely used Internet Explorer as their browser of choice.
Of course, there was a small percentage using platforms such as Netscape (now defunct) and AOL, however most used Internet Explorer and many were completely unaware of the existence of other browser choices. So, the fact that now Mozilla’s Firefox browser sees itself enjoying a 22 percent of the growing browser market is quite something. Also, they are continuing to eat away at IE’s user base even though IE has just released a new version of their browser, dubbed IE 8.
Unfortunately for Microsoft, while they still have a majority of the browser market their overall share is now down to sixty seven percent, which actually sounds impressive but is a largely shrinking number for Internet Explorer. It will certainly be interesting to see if this trend continues and if Firefox is eventually able to take over the browser majority.
